With so many of our volunteers and regular attenders heading home or going on holiday for the Christmas and New Year’s season the responsibility and care for our Sunday afternoon services over the past few weeks have gone to the incredible members of our 2016 Christmas Team, who manage the various behind the scenes and on stage needs.
The entire team went above and beyond during the Holiday season, but we would like to highlight Ashley Shen, who served as the Production Manager for each weekly service from December 11th-January 1st, including Christmas Eve and Christmas Day services.
Ashley arrived at Abundant Grace after receiving a Jeremy Lin booklet from her boss, who was a regular attender at Abundant Grace, and received an invitation to visit the church. Although Ashley was born into a Christian family, she found the community of Abundant Grace to be a place where her faith in Christ could flourish and be stretched.
She quickly got involved in a Life Group led by Cayha and Inge Nuraini for Puxi Young Professionals. Ashley credits watching the faith of these two leaders loving others as servants of Jesus to be both challenging and comforting, and since then she has sought to do the same.
Ashley has gotten involved in various ministries, co-leading the Life Group that helped her grow so much, volunteering in the Hospitality Ministry, serving with Abundant Grace’s Alpha Ministry, and most recently joining the rotation of Production Managers for our afternoon services.
When asked about what advice she would give others looking to get connected into Abundant Grace she remarked that this has been a place where she has had to be stretched to live out her faith in a much bigger way, which we all need. Here, she serves with people from such varying backgrounds, cultures, and personalities, which can be tough at times, but grows her to be more like Jesus, because this was exactly what Jesus has done and continues to do within all of us. So be prepared to grow!
Her favorite Bible verse perfectly sums up her approach to serving God, “The LORD came and stood there, calling as at the other times, “Samuel! Samuel!” Then Samuel said, “Speak, for your servant is listening” (1 Samuel 3:10 NIV).
Thank you, Ashley, for doing what Jesus is doing here at Abundant Grace!
