Summer 2017 is officially over and the community is pouring back into the city filled with new stories about summer adventures and hopefully new measures of spiritual growth. Today, Id like to highlight a select group of people who had the opportunity to stay in Shanghai over the summer.
The Men’s Ministry launched their annual “Not Home Alone” program, which is intentionally geared towards men who are in Shanghai without friends and family during the summer months.
Troy McAdams explained that, “In the summer many friends, spouses and children leave the city and travel. Our goal is to provide a welcoming community where we do fun things, create friendships and have accountability. The title “Not Home Alone” is an amusing play on words from a well known American Christmas movie from the early 90’s, Home Alone.”
The men have held several events including; a study focused on opportunity and direction by John Ortberg called “All The Places To Go”. They have enjoyed archery, shared meals, went biking and go karting.
One of the participants referred to his experience as, “Excellent kingdom of God material.” He went on to say, “I have gotten to know a diverse group of men sooner than I would have otherwise. My relationship with God is better because of my relationship with these guys and the content we explored together”.
But wait… there’s more! Abundant Grace Men is not done with 2017. Though summer is at its end, activities are still on-going. Beginning September 2nd Abundant Grace Men will launch their fall study “Authentic Manhood” where the guys will discuss biblical masculinity while considering the forces that are shaping or misshaping how men view themselves within their many roles. If you are new to Abundant Grace or are just getting back into the swing of things after summer holiday we encourage you to check this out.
