What do you associate with Easter? Eggs? Egg hunts? Family time? Spring? Bunnies? Lambs? The Lamb? The Risen Christ, our savior? At Abundant Grace this past Easter Sunday we celebrated the resurrection of Jesus Christ spectacularly incorporating all the things listed above!
Glory! Experience Easter started with one combined afternoon service at 3pm. When the doors to the sanctuary opened, we had to delay the start of the service by five minutes just to give everyone time to get seated. When the service began, every seat was taken upstairs in the balcony and down below on the first floor, with others standing at the back and sitting on the steps. Our Hospitality team counted over 1300 people – a record attendance for Abundant Grace. We feel so privileged that God brought so many people (and many first-time visitors) to church this Easter.
The service kicked off with a 15 minute drama involving over forty people enacting the story of the two disciples talking to the risen Jesus on the road to Emmaus from Luke 24. Pastor Nate preached his message imagining what Jesus might have said to those two confused friends, explaining how the Messiah had to suffer before entering his glory (Luke 24:26). Pastor Nate’s wife, Christina, joined him on the platform to give her testimony of Jesus’ transformative power in her own life. Following communion, we enjoyed an extended time of spirit-filled sung worship and praise. After an especially joyfully loud Glorious, the children joined the worship team on stage with red and gold ribbons to sing Siyabonga Yesu (Thank you Jesus), a chorus from Africa updated to be sung also in Mandarin.
Following the service, the children enjoyed an egg hunt, trampolines, table fussball, basketball and craft tables with plenty of space for everyone else to enjoy live music, refreshments and time to enjoying conversation.
The weather was perfect: wide, clear, blue skies, good AQI and just-right ambient temperature. God is good all the time, but we relished in his specific kindness to us this Easter day as we celebrated Jesus Christ, risen again!
Please pray for all the visitors who came to church on Sunday. Pray they received something special from God and choose to come back and get connected with us!
