Nate Showalter

BIO

Position at AGIF: Senior Pastor, Elder

About: Dr Nathan D. Showalter was one of the founding leaders of Abundant Grace in 2005 and has served as senior pastor since 2008. Before moving to Shanghai in 2003, Nate worked in leadership and community development in the U.S., Asia and Africa, serving for eight years as pastor of Taipei International Church and for six years with World Vision in California, Hong Kong and Taiwan.

An ordained Mennonite minister, Nate is married to Dr Christina Lee who works as an executive coach and management consultant in addition to her ministry with Abundant Grace. Their son Eli works as a graphic designer in New York City. Nate holds degrees from Eastern Mennonite University (B.A. 1971 cum laude), Fuller Theological Seminary (M.A. 1977), Lancaster Theological Seminary (M.Div. 1980), and Harvard Divinity School (Th.D. 1990).

Random fact: Since we married, lived in 12 houses in 4 countries.

Best advice: We overestimate what we can do in a day. We underestimate what we can do in a year.

Favorite activity in Shanghai: Riding the ferry with Peter across the Huangpu River from the Zhang Yang dock to have Wulong tea with their friends who run a tea shop on the other side of the river.

Fun fact: Elyn played the bagpipes when she was young.

Likes: everything about Chinese culture, including calligraphy, tea, keeping crickets as pets in the fall, Chinese music, the gardens in Suzhou, folk customs and more.

About: Dr Nathan D. Showalter was one of the founding leaders of Abundant Grace in 2005 and has served as senior pastor since 2008. Before moving to Shanghai in 2003, Nate worked in leadership and community development in the U.S., Asia and Africa, serving for eight years as pastor of Taipei International Church and for six years with World Vision in California, Hong Kong and Taiwan.

An ordained Mennonite minister, Nate is married to Dr Christina Lee who works as an executive coach and management consultant in addition to her ministry with Abundant Grace. Their son Eli works as a graphic designer in New York City. Nate holds degrees from Eastern Mennonite University (B.A. 1971 cum laude), Fuller Theological Seminary (M.A. 1977), Lancaster Theological Seminary (M.Div. 1980), and Harvard Divinity School (Th.D. 1990).

Random fact: Since we married, lived in 12 houses in 4 countries.

Slogan for life: “God’s power at work in us can do far more than we dare ask or imagine.”

Best advice: We overestimate what we can do in a day. We underestimate what we can do in a year.

About: I hail from a beautiful little town called Ooty tucked in the Blue Mountains of Southern India. I’ve been living in Shanghai with my wife Christina since 2009 and we’ve been part of the AGIF family ever-since. I am an entrepreneur, working with a focus on disease control, to eradicate tropical diseases like Malaria, TB & HIV/AIDS.

Favorite Activity: Driving on steep winding mountain roads.

Fun Fact: I earned my first income rearing sheep.
